change.
Why counseling?
People generally seek counseling because of change. Some desire intentional change. Some are having change imposed upon them. Desired change can be emotional, physical, relational, behavioral or transitional. Imposed changes can also fall into the same categories.
I believe with certainty that people can change as desired and can weather change as it is imposed. Sometimes what we label change is actually just moving closer to our authentic selves
My approach…
Therapists make choices about their style and methods along the way. One choice is whether to be directive or collaborative. I chose collaboration.
I utilize an Integrative approach, utilizing numerous theories and interventions, working with the desires, needs, and beliefs of my clients.
My work is informed by a belief that people know themselves, their truth, their needs, and their desires better than I do. Sometimes their knowledge is obstructed or hidden deep inside. I work with my clients, traveling the journey at their speed.
Journey
Journey is an important concept. Counseling should be thought of as that, a journey, rather than an event. The journey may be brief, extensive, or somewhere in between. It can be difficult before it gets easier. That goes for the journey as a whole and sometimes individual sessions.
It is my honor to walk beside clients every step of the way.
